After doing the journal, i have start doing the mechanical toy and i had used so tools to have it done.
Firstly, i have the to drilling a tight-fitting hold using the drilling machine on the round cam that i am using. Next, i have to measure the length of the stick and where to hammer the cam in. Here is the picture of the cam hammered into the stick.
Next, i have to cut out the follow shaft, i have chosen acrylic and i used the scroll saw to cut it. after that, i will use the half-round file to file the parts that is not cut nicely. and after that, i nid to polish it so that it will be smooth.
Next i have to prepare the follow, handle and the stopped. for the all of them, i have to drill at least 1 hold in it.

Below is a mechanical toy based on a CAM mechanism. As the handle on the eccentric cam is turned the top part of the egg shell lifts to reveal a face. The basic construction of the toy is also shown below. The flat follower moves upwards and downwards as the cam rotates. Although the design is simple it must be made accurately or the mechanism will stick.
A drop cam has been used on the toy below. The movement is different compared to the smooth motion of the eccentric cam. As the cam rotates the top half of the shell lifts at a relatively constant speed and then drops down suddenly.

When one part of the whole mechanical toy is turned, it will cause the others to be turned too, examples like ...
The cam is attached to the leg of the footballer, when the handle is been turned, the leg of the footballer will go up and down, and the football will be kicked.
When the long wooden thing is been pushed to the left or right, the person will follow suit.
When the handle is turned, the cam inside will turn too, causing the ship to go up and down.
There a wide range of cams used in mechanical toys, there are some simples cams that is used, in this 3 pictures below.
Where there are also some complicated ones...
When the cam is turned, the cams below will make circular movements, causing the cams on top to turn right & left.

TODAY , we had our DnT lesson. We have to do the tray/bowl after we complete the drawing of the design of the tray/bowl. Luckily, i brought my apron, as ... those who didn't bring can't do the practical ! they have to draw ...
My acrylic is orange ! After darkening the lines of my design, i had to do some cuting, to know where my lines lie at. After that, i had to use the scroll saw to cut out the design. Jiamin helped me cut one side and i did the rest.
After that, i had to remove the rough or sharp edges before polishing. After polishing, there is not much time left ! So have to quicken my steps and i made my way to the oven and quickly have my safety precautions on and i put my acrylic in the oven for it to soften. After a few minutes, i took it out and made the shape of the tray/bowl. At the 1st two tries, i'm unhappy with my shape of it, so i placed it again in the oven for the 3rd time, and i made the shape of the tray/bowl & i am satisfied with it ! But while making the shape out, my fingers feel hot ! as the acrylic is hot, but i still have to complete the whole thing.
After some washing of my tray/bowl, i'm done ! And it looks like that :
It is actually the same tray/bowl. But it is shot at different angles.
